Bilateral relations

France recognized South Sudan on 9 July 2011.

It has had representation to the autonomous government of South Sudan since 2006, when it opened an embassy office in Juba. This office was transformed into a Consulate-General in 2010. Since the proclamation of independence on 9 July 2011, the French Consulate-General in Juba has become France’s Embassy in South Sudan.

South Sudan opened an Embassy in France in July 2012.
