South Sudan : Admission to the United Nations
Statements made by the Ministry of Foreign and European Spokesperson (Paris, July 15, 2011)
France welcomes the admission yesterday of South Sudan as the 193rd member of the United Nations. The Minister of State responsible for the French Abroad, David Douillet, represented France at the Security Council meeting that took place on Wednesday, July 13, and reaffirmed France’s full support for the authorities of South Sudan.
In the spirit of dialogue that enabled the new State to gain independence on July 9, the ceremonies of which the Ministre d’Etat attended, France calls upon the Republic of Sudan and the Republic of South Sudan to bring the negotiations on all components of their relations and cooperation to a successful conclusion.
As President Sarkozy indicated on July 9, France assures the government and people of South Sudan of its support for their efforts to build a democratic State and to ensure peace, security and development throughout the country.
