Speech of his excellency Mr Roux, Ambassador of France in South Sudan for the presentation of her credentials to the President of South Sudan.
“I am glad and honoured to have had the opportunity to present my credentials to the President of South Sudan, H.E. President Salva Kiir Mayardit.
We had a very good conversation. I reiterated to the President that France is a friend of South Sudan, and whishes the best, in terms of peace and development, for the South Sudanese people.
And France is keen to supporting. As a friend, but also as a permanent member of the UN Security Council, France will do its best to support the political process which is about to begin, with the implementation of the Peace Agreement. I complimented H.E. the President for having so clearly shown the way to peace to the people of South Sudan. We had a good exchange on the present political situation.
We also had a good discussion on bilateral cooperation. In the field of development assistance, I told the President that l’Agence Française de Développement is interested in a renewed cooperation with South Sudan, once the conditions are met. We also discussed the economic opportunities and the interest of the French companies, including Total, the oil company, to come and do good business in South Sudan.
At last, there were very stimulating exchanges on global issues which are important to the future of our two countries. We have discussed the issue of climate change, which impacts South Sudan, and the very important conference, the “COP21”, which will be held in Paris from November 30. We hope and expect that President Salva Kiir Mayardit will have the possibility to attend this conference.
We also mentioned the opportunities for South Sudan to develop links with French speaking countries, especially in Africa, and discussed the possibilities for South Sudan to get closer to the Organisation Internationale de la Francophonie.
So, you see, it has been a very rich and profitable meeting. I thank you and, again, in the name of France, wish peace and prosperity to the great country of South Sudan and to its great people.”
